What does a smart home look like? A technology company based in Bao’an District responded that a centralized controlling smartphone application might first be needed.

The company, named Trancell, demonstrated how a phone application can control all the lights, alarms, surveillance cameras, curtains and other home appliances within a household or office at the Bao’an Industry Development Expo, which opened Thursday at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center in Futian District.

“An intelligent centralized mainframe will be installed inside the household with the other wires spreading around to all the rooms, connecting every home appliance,” said Huang Jianbiao, a sales manager from the company.

With a personal account, residents of the household will be able to control their home appliances with a special smartphone app developed by the company. For instance, one can click on the “security monitor” button on the screen to turn on the surveillance cameras even when far away from home or office.

“As long as there is Internet, the users can log on to the app and control the appliances in their homes,” said Huang.

The company also collaborates with several real estate developers of residential compounds, sharing useful information with residents who live in the compounds.

Their services include locating nearby groceries and shopping malls, parking services, instant communication with property management centers, and contacting repairmen and maintenance companies.

Huang said that the ideology of smart homes has become increasingly popular in China, especially in well-developed cities like Shenzhen. More residents are choosing to install intelligent systems in their homes.
